Joyce E. Krause, 87, of Iowa City, died Thursday, January 7, 2016, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.

Memorial Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, January 16, 2016, at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church in Iowa City. Online condolences may be sent for her family through the funeral home website at www.gayandciha.com.

Joyce Elaine Sterling was born April 1, 1928, in Algona, Iowa the daughter of Francis M. and Cora Mae (Ferguson) Sterling. Following graduation from high school, she attended and graduated from Iowa State University in Ames. In June of 1948, she married Blaine Nelson, and they had two daughters. Sixteen years later, they would divorce which would lead to Joyce going back to school to earn her degree in dietetics. Years later, while in Algona she met and married, Donald Krause on August 4, 1973. For many of their earlier years together, they had lived in various parts of the country as a result of their careers. She had been employed as a Registered Dietitian at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics for several years before retiring. Joyce was a member of St. Andrew Presbyterian Church and also the American Dietetic Association.

Her family includes her husband, Don; her daughters, Lori Bohardt (Andy) and Beth Conway (Timothy); grandchildren, Jeremy Bohardt, Nathan Bohardt, Christopher Bohardt, Meghan Conway, Abby Conway, and Barley Conway; step-sons, Randy Krause (Vicky), and Tom Krause (Molly); step-grandchildren, Gabe Krause, Josie Krause, Libby Krause, Emily Krause, Abram Krause, Justin Krause, Noah Krause and Adam Krause; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Faye and Glenn Jones.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
