Tribute & Message From The Family

Mary J. Moyers, 59, proud lifelong resident of Iowa City, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, April 9, 2016.

Funeral services will be held 7 p.m., Wednesday at the Gay & Ciha Funeral Service in Iowa City where a time of visitation will be held prior to the service, from 4-7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Mary Moyers Memorial Fund. Online condolences can be shared with her family at www.gayandciha.com.

Mary Jane Moyers was born August 8, 1956, in Iowa City, Iowa; daughter of John C. "Kippy" and Lola J. (Bymer) Moyers. She attended Central Junior High School and graduated from Iowa City High with the Class of '74. In August of 1977 she married Perry Miller in Iowa City and they proudly raised two successful daughters. She was proud to be an Iowa City native, living nearly her entire life in the Goosetown neighborhood and very much enjoyed the history surrounding the area. Mary worked for 37 years at the University of Iowa Hospitals in Central Sterilizing and currently was working at the UI College of Dentistry. She was the current President of the Central Service Association of Iowa, Inc., as well as a founding member.

When not antiquing with Perry, Mary delighted in being "Grandma" to her two grandchildren and playing with her granddogs. Mary was an incredibly proud mother and grandmother. Her stubborn nature and genuine, whole-hearted, caring personality will be remembered by all who knew and loved her.

Her family includes her husband of nearly 39 years, Perry; daughters, Mandy Ware and her husband, Kyle and Sara Miller and her significant other, Patrick Langford both of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Alayna and Kieran; and brothers, John, and Jim Moyers of Iowa City and Jeff Moyers of Las Vegas, NV.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Jerry and her grand dog, Macho.

Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service is caring for Mary's family and her services.

Perry, Mandy, Sarah and Family,

We were stunned and saddened to hear of Mary's death. I ran into her every once in a while while walking my dog and she would be sitting on her porch. She began and ended every conversation with stories of her family and especially her grandchildren. She just glowed with pride and love for all of you. I always left smiling. You will be in our thoughts and prayers.

My heart was crushed when I heard of Mary's passing. Her obituary described her so well, she was such a genuine person. She worked so hard for the College of Dentistry and I know they will be missing her sterilization knowledge for years to come. I always enjoyed hearing the stories of her grandchildren and her face lit up when talking about them. I will miss talking to her. My prayers go out to her family.

Mary will be greatly missed by the many people whose lives she touched. I will always remember that when I had my twins she made the hour long drive with her daughter Mandy and Mandy's little girl Alayna to come visit us. It was the gesture that a true friend would make.
