Alberta Lou Vining was born June 12, 1928, in Aurora, Nebraska the daughter of Louis and Mae Vining. She graduated from Roosevelt High School in Des Moines. Later she received her degree in Interior Design Technology, graduating with honors from Kirkwood Community College in 1986. Even before she earned her degree, she was doing interior design work for Pat Harding Construction Company, and for years she worked for Hamm's Hearth and Home in Iowa City.

Bert was a longtime member of First Christian Church, Iowa City Women's Auxiliary, Homebuilders Association and numerous other organizations and involvements over the years. She enjoyed so much in life, traveling around the world with her family, cooking for family and friends, family history, and line dancing. She liked to dance, and to share her passion of dancing with everyone. But most of all, she loved her family and friends. A more devoted friend, mother, grandmother, and great grand-mother would be hard to find!

Her family includes her late husband of over 67 years, Ronald "Pat"; their children, Ron Harding Jr. (Mary) of Chandler, AZ; Robert Harding (Sara) of Platteville, WI; Suzanne Galea (John) of Terra Haute, IN; Cathleen Chapman (Art) of Lone Tree, IA; and Richard Harding of Waimea, Kauai; 11 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, Bert's brother, Lou Vining and sister, Louise Jacobsen.

Bert was very considerate and warm. A wonderful person and good friend. I had the privilege to enjoy line dancing with her for more than 10 years. We will miss her a great deal and will always dance one for her.

My thoughts and Prayers to all of Bert's family. Bert was a fantastic sweet lady. I took line dance from her for several years at the senior center and all of us in Bert's class had a fantastic time. Bert was not only our instructor but she was a friend and we all missed her when she quit teaching. all of her students will cherish our memories with Bert as I know all of her family has great memories of their mother, grandmother, great grandmother and all of her friends.
Prayers to all of you
