I raised some seedling for Project Green one time and it was time to transplant them into little pots but for some reason I was reluctant. Nancy said she would come and help me. It was a lousy day but she came and we worked in my garage and got the seedlings transplanted. We needed to go out into the garden for some reason and it was raining. Nancy put a plastic bag over her head and with a smile went out into the rain.

Nancy was always encouraging to me as a young community volunteer and activist. She would find ways for me to come to conclusions myself versus telling me how she thought I might proceed to accomplish a goal. This kind of support was critical to me as I worked my way through living and organizing in Iowa City. Thank you, Nancy, for helping me develop my life process. And thank you for the countless plantings that have made this a lovely place to live.

May you celebrate your mother's life well!!

I met Nancy in 1997 when I went to work for CIVIC / ICFRC; at that time my mother had been diagnosed with Alzheimer's nine years earlier. Nancy was a SPECIAL lady with a wide variety of interests; one which was in foreign affairs. She attended all the luncheons; always coming early in order to help set tables and help in any way she could. When she was diagnosed, I watched her face the future with the same energy and

Nancy will always be remembered for her passion for beautifying the environment that surrounded her in Iowa City. Her passion and spirit were contagious, giving impetus to founding and thriving of an all-volunteer organization, Project GREEN. I have known and worked with Nancy since Project GREEN's beginnings, inspired by her energy and devotion to a great cause. She leaves a legacy for those that continually step up to follow in her footsteps. Even though she will be missed, she will always be remembered by a grateful community.

With sympathy to her family,

Anne Hesse

I have known Nancy since the days when her daughter, Angela and I went to U-High together. I remember many wonderful days at their home, especially dancing with her and her remarkable husband, and watching the Kennedy election in the wee small hours of the morning, and the party that ensued after he won the election. What a great lady she was. Sally Hall

Dear Siberling Family,

I am so sorry to hear about Nancy. I met Nancy in the late 1970's when I was gardening for Gretchen Harshbarger and working for the Iowa City Parks Department. We worked closely with Nancy and Gretchen on Project Green projects on the downtown area, Iowa and Melrose Avenues. I was always in awe of Nancy...her energy, enthusiasm, focus and love for the environment. Over the years I have often thought of Nancy and her famous parting words

What a pleasure it was to work with Nancy and soak up some of her vast knowledge of trees and shrubs. She was a remarkable woman. Every day spent with her at her home and yard was a pleasure. Thank you Nancy,

Years ago, a friend of mine said, "Nancy Seiberling--she's my hero." Mine too, still. Thanks to all of you, her family, for sharing her with all of us.
